About English for Work
English for Work is a free program for immigrants and refugees to prepare for employment in the United States and improve their English language skills.
2024 Summer & Fall Program Information
We are offering summer quarter and fall quarter classes. Summer quarter is four weeks long and is designed to prepare intermediate level students for our 10-week fall quarter class. Students who enroll in summer quarter should plan to continue taking classes in fall quarter.

Preparation for Fall 2024 English for Work
Learn vocabulary and grammar related to identifying skills and strengths, job trends, and career planning.

Learn about resumes, job search, interviewing, and the U.S. workplace.
Develop English speaking, listening, reading, and writing skills.

Orientation starts July 10 | Class: August 6-August 30
There are three class options for summer quarter. Each class is three days per week and hybrid. Hybrid means that some of the classes are in person each week, and some of the classes are online.

English for Work Fall Quarter Details

Orientation starts September 17 | Class: September 30-December 13
There are five class options for fall quarter. Each class is two days per week online via Zoom.
Class Option 1
Mondays and Wednesdays, 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM, Online – Zoom
Class Option 2
Tuesdays and Thursdays, 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM, Online – Zoom
Class Option 3
Tuesdays and Thursdays, 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM, Online – Zoom
Class Option 4
Tuesdays and Thursdays, 6:00 – 8:00 PM, Online – Zoom
Class Option 5
Tuesdays and Thursdays, 6:00 – 8:00 PM, Online – Zoom
In addition to online classes, there are in-person classes offered on Fridays at Rainier Beach Branch – Seattle Public Library, Hopelink Shoreline, and Hopelink Redmond. These in-person classes are only available for students who are enrolled in the Zoom classes.
To enroll in English for Work students must:
- Be 18 years or older
- Plan to get a job in the U.S. or enroll in job training/college to prepare to get a job (within the next 6 months)
- not have a B-1, B-2, F-1, J-1, or M-1 visa
- live in north and east King County (for example, Bellevue, Redmond, Kirkland, Shoreline) or in the city of Seattle. Newly arrived refugees living in surrounding areas are welcome to apply for the program.
