In addition to regular programs and services that help families and individuals gain and maintain stability, Hopelink offers additional support for school-aged children; including food for kids on summer break, backpacks filled with school supplies for youth going back to school.
End Summer Hunger
Hopelink 5 Food Markets hosts the End Summer Hunger (ESH) Program during July and August. If you have school-aged children (6-18 years old) who are entering grades 1-12 and you need help with food, you can receive additional easy-prep food for your household.
The program is aimed at increasing the amount of nutritious breakfast and lunch-type foods available to students when school is not in session. It’s also intended to help parents handle the added cost of feeding children while school is out. Hopelink food markets may offer the following additional foods during the summer months: peanut butter, jelly, fresh fruits, milk, cereal, mac n’ cheese and snacks. To use this program, please enroll in one of our Food Markets. Call the Hopelink center nearest to where you live for more information.
Holiday Gift Program
During the November and December holiday season, Hopelink’s 5 Food Markets offer a variety of special seasonal foods for households. Such foods include squashes and pumpkins, spices, stuffing mixes, fresh cranberries, baking supplies and protein options as funding allows.
Additionally, during this time, there may be expanding funding capacity to provide families with children from ages 0-18 who are actively enrolled in Hopelink services with gift cards they can use to shop for gifts of their own during the month of December. Parents can use these gift cards to purchase books, games, toys, or whatever their family needs to maintain traditions. This program is determined on a year-by-year basis based on funding.
Kids Need School Supplies
Before school begins, our Kirkland, Redmond and Sno-Valley Food Markets host a 2-week school supply and backpack distribution. Items such as backpacks, pens, paper or other basic school supplies can be obtained, at no cost, through our Kids Need School Supplies Program during August.
