About English for Work

English for Work is a free program for students to prepare for employment in the United States and improve their English language skills. Students learn about topics such as skills and strengths, job search, resumes, and interviewing, while practicing speaking, listening, reading, and writing. Classes are best for intermediate and advanced level students.

  • To register for class, students must first attend an online group orientation. During group orientation, students learn more about English for Work online classes, meet the teachers, and meet other students.
  • After group orientation, students must complete a reading assessment and registration paperwork.
  • Online classes are held two times per week for about three months. Each class is 2 hours long. Morning and evening options are available.
  • In addition to attending online classes, students complete about 3 - 5 hours of homework per week.

To enroll in English for Work online students must:

  • Plan to get a job in the U.S. or enroll in job training/college to prepare to get a job (within the next 6 months)
  • Be able to participate in online classes and complete homework
  • Complete orientation
  • Be 18 years or older
  • Live in the U.S. permanently (we cannot serve people who have B, F, J, M, or other temporary visas)
  • Live near a Hopelink Center (for example, in Shoreline, Bothell, Kenmore, Kirkland, Bellevue, Redmond, or surrounding cities)

Important: If you do not want to get a job, there are other classes in the community that may be a better fit for you. Please ask us for recommendations!
