Volunteer FAQ

Frequently asked questions about volunteering at Hopelink. Thank you for your interest!

Volunteers like YOU help by supporting English-for-Work and GED classes, transporting food donations, helping people learn to use public transportation, gleaning produce in Hopelink Harvest, assisting in the food bank, and more!

While most volunteer opportunities occur Monday through Friday during reglar business hours, some programs do have evening hours. Weekend opportunities are restricted to special events and occur periodically.

We make every effort to place volunteers in the program of their choice. However, all volunteer positions are subject to availability. Some positions may have skill requirements.

Hopelink requires that all volunteers are at least 16 years old. Some positions may require volunteers to be older.

Hopelink volunteers report feeling a sense of community and knowing they have made a difference!

More information about ongoing volunteer opportunities can be found on our website. Our programs will also be discussed at Volunteer Orientation. If you have questions, please contact our Volunteer Program Coordinator at volunteerwithus@hopelink.org or (425)869-6066.

While each position’s commitment requirements vary, most volunteers serve around 4 hours per month. Volunteers are not required to volunteer daily.

Due to our inability to verify hours completed, we are unable to offer community service hours for projects completed away from Hopelink sites.

We love utilizing the unique skills of our community! Please contact Liz at ewaesche@hopelink.org or 425.897.3721 to find out how you can help.

Please consider volunteering with the RotaCare clinic in Bellevue.  Find out more information on their website.

To begin the registration process, please fill our our online application. Once the initial screening and background check are completed (please allow up to two weeks to process your application), we will send you a confirmation email with orientation dates.  Note: All Hopelink volunteers (with the exception of  one-time volunteers) must pass a background check, regardless of age.

Hopelink’s volunteer orientation is designed to give you an overview of the agency, our policies and procedures, and to go into more detail about the different volunteer opportunities available to you. Volunteer orientation takes 90 minutes. Virtual orientations are held 2-4 times a month online.

All Hopelink volunteers are required to pass a Washington State Patrol background check. Because we work with vulnerable populations, those with offenses considered Crimes Against Persons are not eligible to volunteer. Note: Volunteers with a driving offense (ie. DUI, Reckless Driving) within the last 5 years may serve with Hopelink, but driving restrictions apply. Some potential volunteers may be asked to come in for an interview prior to signing up for a volunteer orientation. Volunteers may be asked due to the nature of their offense or the number of offenses on their record.
