English for Work is a free program for English language learners to prepare for employment in the United States and improve their English language skills.
We offer classes for adults with intermediate and advanced level English skills and for beginners. Classes are open to all eligible persons regardless of race, ethnicity, gender, religion, or other identity.

Winter Quarter Classes
Intermediate and Advanced Level

Students develop English speaking, listening, reading, and writing skills while learning how to:
- Set career goals
- Write a résumé
- Search and apply for jobs
- Do a job interview
Intermediate and advanced level classes are designed for those who plan to get a job in the U.S. or enroll in job training or college to prepare for employment within the next six months.
Students participate in class for one quarter (about three months).
Beginner Level

Jan. 12 – March 19, 2026
Students learn:
- English letters and numbers
- How to read and write in English
- Vocabulary useful for work and daily life
Students may spend three months to about one year in the program, depending on their learning needs.
To be eligible for English for Work, students must:

Be 18 years or older

Be an English language learner with beginning, intermediate, or advanced English skills (see our Guide for Identifying English Level)

Not have a B-1, B-2, F-1, J-1, or M-1 visa

Live in the Hopelink service area (North or East King County), Seattle, or a neighboring city. Neighboring cities include Edmonds, Mountlake Terrace, Renton, Burien, SeaTac, Tukwila, Des Moines, and White Center. (See map here)
- Classes are designed for English language learners who want to develop their English skills to prepare for employment and reach their goals in the U.S.
- Our core classes are offered online via Zoom. All students attend Zoom classes two days per week.
- We offer morning and evening class options. Classes are typically two hours long.
- In addition to attending Zoom classes, students complete online assignments, and intermediate and advanced level students have the option to attend in-person classes.
- Chromebook computers are available for students to borrow. We provide support to students learning how to use technology, such as Zoom, if needed.
- All our classes are free!
