About the Campaign
As school bells ring for the final time this summer, many children look forward to sun-soaked days spent outside with friends. But for more than 17,730 children in King County who depend on free or reduced-fee school meal programs, summer brings about the uncertainty of not having access to regular, nutritious meals. For their parents, this presents the challenge of affording additional meals throughout the summer months – especially as grocery prices continue to soar.
This is where Hopelink’s End Summer Hunger campaign comes in. With food insecurity rapidly rising in our region, it’ll take our whole community, coming together, to bridge this gap. Since July 2024, our Food Assistance program has served an estimated 15% more people than the previous year. Even while maintaining a steady supply of food has been a challenge for the program, our neighbors still visit their local Hopelink Food Market every day to shop for groceries that are fresh, culturally relevant, and most importantly – free. None of this would be possible without a community that cares.
Will you help us bridge the gap for children and families experiencing food insecurity?
