Farm Fresh Feast is Hopelink’s annual evening of fine food and wine, music and memories. Held at Woodinville’s Columbia Winery, the always popular summertime event includes an opportunity for guests to bid on unique items and experiences during live and silent auctions. Guests also enjoy a spectacular multi-course, locally-sourced one-of-a-kind menu, as well exceptional wines uncorked just for the occasion.
With more than four decades of expertise tucked under his tall white toque, local celebrity chef John Howie returned to orchestrate a culinary tour de force for Hopelink’s Farm Fresh Feast.
Howie began his career in Seattle at the age of 15, later gaining notoriety for bringing unique, specialty foods to local diners. His acclaimed restaurants include Seastar Restaurant and Raw Bar, SPORT Restaurant & Bar and his latest venture, Beardslee Public House and Wildwood Spirits Co. in Bothell.
Howie’s restaurants also are known for their philanthropic achievements, having donated more than $4.5 million in goods and services to charitable organizations since 2002. Regularly featured in local and national media, Howie is the author of “Passion & Palate: Recipes for a Generous Table,” which includes wine recommendations for each of the 240 recipes.
The visionary university professors who founded Columbia Winery in 1962 had a hunch that an area geographically aligned with Europe’s best winegrowing regions might produce the same stellar vintages. They were right. The first winery in the state to focus exclusively on European wine grapes, Columbia’s progressive spirit has helped foster a unique portfolio of distinct, food-friendly wines that rival their European counterparts.
In 1979, British Winemaker David Lake – one of the state’s first professionally trained winemakers – joined the winery; taking the lead in crafting the first series of vineyard-designate wines and the first Pinot Gris, Syrah and Cabernet Franc wines in Washington.
Today, Lake’s spirit lives on through the leadership of Winemaker Sean Hails. Columbia Winery’s pedigree of critically acclaimed, award-winning wines continues with grapes from renowned AVAs, including Columbia Valley, Red Mountain, Horse Heaven Hills, Ancient Lakes, Yakima Valley and Wahluke Slope.
